Government of Assam have, since 1974, been honouring noted Literatteurs of the state with literary pension as well as one time award for their life long contribution to the literary field. A total of 226 Literatteurs has so far been honoured by these provisions. The pension at present is disbursed by the local treasury office at the rate of Rs 1,500 per month; the one time award is of Rs. 15,000.

The Directorate releases an advertisement every year between May to July inviting applications for the award/pension. Follow this link to download application format.
The applications received by the Directorate within stipulated date are compiled and transmitted to the Govt. for selection by a high power committee. The names of selected literatteur are published in news papers on the Independence Day. These Literatteur are informed by the Directorate too, and are asked to furnish some documents for onward transmission to the Accountant General who issues Personal Pay Orders (PPOs) on the basis of which the pension/award amount is disbursed by the respective treasuries.
